Easy Glycerin Soap Making Project
Monday, January 15, 2001

Supplies:

  • 1lb. Of, unscented clear glycerin Soap
  • Soap mold or heavy heat resistant candy mold
  • Soap scent
  • Soap colorant
  • Small knife
  • Sm. Microwavable glass bowl
  • Spoon
  • Plastic wrap
  • Vegetable oil
  • Papertowels

Instructions:

1. Cover work area and clothing. Remember the colorant is highly concentrated and will stain.

2. Thoroughly coat the inside of the mold with vegetable oil. This causes the soap to release easily. Set aside for later.

3. I found a really great starter. Kit by Craft House. I just followed the directions in the kit and had no problems. If using a different kit or product be sure and follow the directions they give.

4. Cut the clear glycerin block into to squares. It takes 2-3 squares to fill the mold. I then cut the squares into 4 smaller cubes and put them in a small Microwavable bowl. This made the melting time faster. The soap melts very quickly. I recommend that you only microwave it for 10-15 seconds at a time, and then check it. DO NOT Boil the soap.

5. After you have melted the soap, carefully remove (as bowl and soap are hot); use a pin to put a hole in the dye and the fragrance. Add one drop of both to the hot soap and stir. Add both sparingly. Both are highly concentrated, so add a drop at a time.

6. If the soap is starting to harden microwave again at 10 sec. Intervals until the soap completely melts again. Do not Boil.

7. Carefully remove and pour into prepared mold.

8. Let harden at room temperature.

9. When soap has completely cooled remove from mold by turning upside down and gently twisting mold. Wrap soap in plastic wrap and seal with tape to insure freshness.

10. Adult supervision is required. I recommend that you test this soap on a small patch of skin to check for allergic reaction before using.

11.There are lots of fun variations of soap making such as layering and embedding shapes in the bars, use your imagination.

Embedded Shape

12. Have a colored shape already poured and hardened using the above instructions.

13. Now using the same melting instructions melt 2 squares of clear glycerin soap. Do not add colorant. Pour into bar mold filling about 1/4 of the mold. Let completely cool and harden.

14. Place colored soap shape on top of the completely cooled clear bar.

15. Melt an additional 3 squares of clear glycerin, (use previous melting instructions).

16. Let melted soap cool just slightly so as not to melt the shape, pour over the shape and fill bar. Soap will come out easier if you fill to just below the rim of the mold.

17. Enjoy soap making and be careful, but have fun, DAZ
