Supplies:

Paint
Moon Yellow

Honey Brown
Decoart Blender
& Extender Medium
Container to mix
paint & extender
Terracotta pot
for each color
Colored sand (choose
sand colors to go with the paint colors you use)
Yellow
Blue
Brown
Sponge
Paintbrush
Box, newspapers
& plastic bags to make sand bed
Instructions:
1.
Make a bed
for the sand, using the box (make sure it is wide enough so the pot
will fit in it and roll), plastic bags and then newspaper. I placed
the bags in the box first so that there is a soft layer, then spread
the newspaper on top of that. Lastly spread the sand out over the
paper.
2.
Mix
equal parts paint & extender.
3.
Use the sponge
to get the pot wet so it will not cause the paint to dry too quickly.
I found you really have to work fast.
4.
Quickly apply
the paint mixture with the brush, I left a border at the top and bottom
of the original terre cotta. Wipe off any mistakes with the damp sponge.
5.
Now roll the
wet pot in the sand bed. Let it dry and tap off the excess sand.
6.
I found this
idea in a copy of an old craft magazine called Handcraft Illustrated.
They just used ordinary sand, but I thought that the colored sand
gave an extra richness to the texture and color of the pot. (By the
way this is one of the best magazines I have found for great ideas!)
