Pumpkin Table Decor
Monday, November 4, 2002

Supplies:

  • Pumpkins in a variety of sizes, large enough to put your bowls in
  • Sharp knife
  • Melon baller or scraper
  • Small glass bowls, or other container that will fit in the pumpkin
Instructions:
 1. Wash pumpkins well.
 2. Cut the top off the pumpkin with a sharp knife, make sure to go low enough on the side to accommodate the bowl that you want to insert later.
 3. Scrape the seeds and membrane out of the inside of the pumpkin, you may also have to scrape away part of the wall of the pumpkin in order to make enough room for the container. (I recommend that you prepare the pumpkins in advance and then refrigerate. That way the day of your dinner all you have to do is place the bowl inside and fill with your favorite salad or cranberry relish.)
 4. Place the container inside of the pumpkin.
 5. Fill with your salad or relish. Put the top back on the pumpkin. Place the Pumpkin directly on each guest plate. I also used a smaller pumpkin to put the salad dressing in at the side of the plate.

Pumpkin Table Decor Project 2 - Fruit Candle Holders

Supplies:

  • Apples, Pears, small pumpkins
  • Apple corer or sharp paring knife
  • Candles
Instructions:

 1. Wash fruit.
 2. On flat surface place the fruit so you can see where the line is that runs vertically through the fruit. This may not be where the stem is, but actually a little to one side of the stem. This is important, as you don't want the fruit to fall over when you put the candle in it.
 3. When you have established the vertical line, use the corer to take out the vertical line. Just place it on the top of the fruit and push. Remove the part that has been cut.
 4. Place the candle in the hole.
I think these natural decorations make beautiful table ornaments and don't take up much space so that you still have plenty of room for the rest of your Fall Feast. Have a GREAT Thanksgiving, and as always have fun preparing for it! DAZ
