Pressed Flower, Decorated Candles
Monday, August 5, 2002

Supplies:

  • Light Colored Candle
  • DecoArt Candle Painting Medium
  • Soft-bristled Brush
  • Pressed Flowers
Instructions:

1. To prepare the candle, wipe the surface with common household rubbing alcohol.

2. Draw off an area on a piece of paper that is equal to the area on the candle that is to be decorated.
(A good rule of thumb to use to figure a round candle is: the diameter of the candle x 1 . 5. EX: 4" x 1 . 5 = 6". So your work space will be 6" x the height of the candle.)
3. Gently place the pressed flowers on the paper in the design you want to use on the candle. Remember the flowers are extremely fragile so handle with care.

4. Starting with the flowers farthest away from the center of the design begin placing them on the candle. Do this by first wetting the area with the DecoArt Candle Painting Medium, and then gently setting the flower onto the area. Now apply another coat of the Candle medium on top of the flower. Use very gentle brushstrokes so as not to tear the petals.
5. Continue applying the flowers to the candle working from the outside of the design to the center. After you have finished the design let dry and then apply another coat of Candle Medium to the floral design to help seal it.
Candles are for decorative purposes only.
Have fun and enjoy! DAZ
