Planted Chair Project
Monday, June 5, 2000

Supplies:
  1. Old wooden chair ( NOT a valuable chair)
  2. Staple gun & staples
  3. Nylon tulle
  4. Potting mix
  5. Time release plant food
  6. Floral wire
  7. Wire cutters
  8. Spanish moss
  9. Assorted annuals, I used snap dragons, ageratum, verbena, alyssum, and petunias.
  10. Window screen (needed only if chair is bottomless)
Instructions:
1. If chair is bottomless, then cut window screening 2" larger than seat and staple on to seat. You want to make sure that your window screen is large enough you can fold it over the edge of the seat and staple on the bottom. My old chair has a split seat which insures drainage. If your chair seat doesn't have a way to drain, then drill a couple of small holes in the bottom. Lay a strip of the nylon tulle over the split/holes in the bottom so all your dirt doesn't fall through.

2. Use 2 layers of tulle and staple it along the top of the seat about 1" from the edge. Staple all the way around the seat, when you come to the spindles in the back of the chair staple the tulle on the inside of the spindles.

3. Put some spanish moss between the back chair spindles and the nylon tulle, this hides the tulle.

4. Place a layer of gravel in bottom of seat. Holding the tulle up as you go, fill the seat with soil. Add time release plant food according to the directions on container.

5. After you have filled the seat with dirt, use spanish moss to cover the tulle on the rest of the chair seat,. Use paddle floral wire to hold the moss in place.

6. Now plant with your favorite annuals. Be sure and water when needed.

7. Make sure you have fun while you are planting your chair!! DAZ
