Simple Metal Embossing Project
Monday, January 29, 2001

Supplies:

  • Stylus (wood, metal, plastic)
  • Sheet of thin copper or tin
  • Pattern
  • Scissors
  • Firm yet soft surface such as a notebook to work on
  • (to make card you will need cardstock and double stick tape and ribbon, I think this would look great framed also.)
Instructions:

1. Cut the appropriate size of copper for the piece you are doing.

2. Place copper shiny side down on notebook.

3. Place pattern on top of copper.

4. Using a stylus gently yet firmly trace the entire pattern. You may want to use tape to hold your pattern in place. Use a low tack tape.

5. After you have completely traced the pattern you may go over the areas again that you want a deeper embossing on.

6. After you have completed the embossing you can apply a patina if desired.

7. Now glue the embossed copper to a card with glue or double stick tape.

8. A few things to keep in mind:

  • The metal will have sharp edges so handle carefully.
  • The metal is extremely soft and will mar easily .
  • The instructions that came with my pattern recommended filling the underside with plaster or glue.

I did and it just popped out, I applied double stick tape to the glue and the metal and then stuck it to the cardstock .

I put on a little bow and this made a great Valentine! Have fun, DAZ
