Using Garden Statuary For Memorial Day And Funeral Florals
Garden Statuary Project
Monday, May 21, 2001

Instructions:
  • The following are 3 ideas that are alternatives to the more traditional Memorial and Funeral Decorations. I like the idea of using garden statuary instead of potted plants or Fresh Floral arrangements. It enables the family to take home something that doesn’t require care and that they can keep as a memory of their loved one. Keep in mind that concrete is extremely heavy so I recommend using smaller pieces to decorate with.
Cherub with Ribbon and Silk Flower
  • Make a bow, now glue a silk flower in the middle of it with a few sprigs of greenery. Use a small piece of statuary such as a cherub or angel, adhere the bow to the statue using hot glue or floral clay.
Potted Plant w/ Statuary
  • Fill a container such as a hanging basket or nice pot with an array of silk or live plants leaving the middle open. Place a small cherub or angel in the middle of the arrangement.
Small Birdbath with Angel
  • Use a small birdbath that is just 1-2 foot tall, place a small amount of soil in the bottom. Place a small garden statue in the center Plant bedding plants around the edge, fill in with soil & Spanish moss if needed. I used Sweet Alysumm. This is not intended to be a long term planter, but the plants can be transferred at a later date.
  • I think these 3 ideas make very thoughtful and wonderful gifts or decorations that are appropriate for Memorial day as well as a funeral.
  • Hope you all have a safe and happy Memorial weekend.
