Supplies: unfinished wooden planter plastic liner drainage stones or I used packing peanuts potting mix grass seed moss or Spanish moss brush old cloth to wipe off stain Decoart Heavenly Hues Brown Decoart Patio paint fern green bow opt. glue/glue gun

• Working on small area at a time brush on the brown heavenly Hues and then wipe off, cover the whole planter Wipe off most of the paint for a lighter coverage leave more on for darker. Let dry.
  
• Now dry brush small areas at random with the Fern green patio paint. To drybrush dip brush in paint and then work most of the paint off on a paper towel , now briskly brush over random areas of the planter, the idea is to highlight the texture/roughness of the wood. Let dry.
• Put liner in planter, I used a plastic bag and pierced it with lots of holes to insure good drainage.
• Now put in a layer of stones or packing peanuts, cover that with your potting soil. The soil should be approx. 4” deep.
• Now glue the moss around the edge to cover any of the liner that might show.
• Put a liberal amount of grass seed on top of the soil. Put just a fine layer of soil on that and then a very light layer of moss for mulch.Water and set in a sunny warm window. Keep the soil moist but not overly wet. In 7-10 days you should see germination and that wonderful color of fresh Spring Green!!! I wanted to really emphaze the contrast of the drab vs. fresh so I used a yellowed moss for my planter. If you like, tie a nice bow around the planter or use a piece of raffia. When Spring has finally sprung you can just take your patch of grass out in the yard and use it to cover a bare spot. I think this is a great way to get a little of a head start on Mother Nature and help disperse those Winter blues.
