Chocolate Egg Topiary Project
Monday, April 9, 2001

Supplies:

  • 4 bags of foil covered chocolate eggs
  • 6" clay pot
  • 4" Styrofoam ball
  • low temp glue gun & stix
  • DecoArt Patio Paint: white
  • 1 spool each narrow satin ribbon, (I recommend OFFRAY SPOOL O’RIBBON)
    • white
    • yellow
    • pink
    • blue
    • lavender
  • Paint brush
  • Floral foam for pot
  • scissors
  • Easter Grass
  • floral wire for bow
  • STURDY branch (The chocolate is heavy so you will need a sturdy branch to support it)
Instructions:
  • Paint the pot with the White patio Paint. You will probably need 2 coats to cover , let dry.
  • Make a 4" bow using all colors of ribbon.
  • When pot is dry, glue a piece of each color of ribbon around the collar of the pot
  • Insert the top of the branch into the Styrofoam ball.
  • Insert floral foam into pot.
  • Insert the bottom of the branch into the foam in the pot. (You may want to put some weight in the bottom of the pot to keep it from being top heavy)
  • Using your LOW TEMP glue gun apply a small amount of glue to the end of a foil covered egg and glue it to the Styrofoam ball.
  • I worked in a circular pattern. Glue the eggs on until the ball is covered. Insert the bow on the top of the ball with floral wire.
  • Put Easter grass in the pot to cover the foam.
  • Now you can place your topiary on the table and fill the base pot with your colored hard boiled eggs.
  • Good project for older kids, have fun! DAZ
