Dr. Robert Monetta, O.D.
Dr. Monetta Optometry and Eyes in Disguise has been a landmark provider of eye care services in the Bay Area since 1954. Still located in San Francisco "proper", both practices have always been a fixture in the local and external community serving generations of professionals and families alike.
For over fifty years, the practice has provided vision care to celebrities from the film, television, theater, music, politics and sports.
Dr. Monetta Optometry and Eyes in Disguise Optometry combines the latest technology with a warm and caring approach.
Dr. Robert Monetta joined the practice with his father in 1982. For over 30 years, he has incorporated his areas of special interest in both medical eye diseases and children’s vision therapy.
Dr. Robert Monetta graduated from the Pacific University and completed his doctorate at the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. He completed a residency program at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association as well as the College of Optometry in Visual Development.
Dr. Robert Monetta specializes in many aspects of medical eye disease. Although Diabetes continues to be the leading cause of vision loss, Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Cataracts can also contribute to vision loss. Dry Eye is also a chronic eye condition that many adults suffer from. Dr. Robert Monetta specializes in Dry Eye Treatment and can provide immediate comfort once diagnosed with this condition.
Since children's vision is another one of Dr. Monetta's specialties, he enjoys providing vision screenings at both public and private Bay Area schools. His specialization includes children with Visually Related Learning Problems. He wants parents and teachers to understand that although many children can learn to read, many cannot read to learn. How well a child sees at twenty feet (20/20 eyesight) does not mean that he or she can use two eyes together as a team. Vision is learned and visual skills can be taught during Vision Therapy.
Dr. Robert Monetta also participates in speaking engagements at PTA meetings and Senior Centers.
Dr. Monetta enjoys mountain biking, tennis, traveling and spending time with his family.
